Windsor Chair making

Come and enjoy a week (7-days) in the woodland workshop learning how to make your own chair with Peter Wood. Suitable for all levels of experience. You will take home the chair you’ve made!

We are offering you the choice of five different chairs to make.

Please choose from either,

1. Continuous Windsor armchair
2. Welsh/high backed style chair.
3. Child’s chair
4. Steam bent side chair
5. Comb back side chair

Each chair will take you through a range of different chairmaking skills.

Each student will start by making their chair legs using green wood, you will cleave wood, axe and drawknife before either turning your legs on the pole lathe or finishing their shaping with a drawknife and spokeshave.

Spindles will be shaped with a spokeshave and the backs of your chairs will be steam-bent or split and shaped from a fresh log.

The heart of each chair is it’s beautifully sculpted seat. You will shape this using a variety of tools including adze, inshave, travisher and scrapers.

Full payment for each course is required when booking (please do contact us if this is a problem).  You can change the date or cancel your place up to 30 days before the course starts but there is a £25 administration charge. The full course fee is non-refundable after this time, however we will always try to fill the cancelled place. If we can fill your place, we are of course happy to transfer you to another course.

Please note there are no dogs allowed on site and while we give you full safety briefings all courses are attended at your own risk.
